We did it and it was a BLAST!
SpecFicNZ officially hit the sky and broke atmosphere at our launch event at Au Contraire in Wellington. The launch was a huge success, with almost 40 writers strapped into the conference room.
Ripley Patton, the SpecFicNZ founder, started the evening by addressing the questions, “What is SpecFicNZ? Why do we need it? And what’s in it for New Zealand and its writers?”
After the presentation, attendees were invited to sign up. Twenty joined then and there, with others opting to join via the website later. There were also several donations to the SpecFicNZ cause by generous non-writers.
A free book-draw raffle was conducted at the end of the launch for those who signed up with items donated by many of the Sir Julius Vogel nominees. Tim Jones even won a one-of-a-kind SpecFicNZ cap (Please ask him to wear it).
Membership of SpecFicNZ is already at 36 members, with website membership opening to the public on September 1st.
Keep your eye on the membership profiles as new members begin to log in and connect. We also have many additions to the website planned in the near future, so don’t forget to check back often.
Thanks to all of you who made the launch a roaring success. More photos of the launch can be viewed on Ripley’s Facebook here.
