Interstellar Award for Speculative Poetry 2015

Congratulations to SpecFicNZ member Tim Jones, whose poem Kraken won second place in the Interstellar Award for Speculative Poetry 2015!

The judges said of Tim’s poem:

In an epic sweep worthy of a Norse saga, the poet builds a vision of the kraken as the sleeping time-bomb beneath humanity’s rise from the caves, slumbering ever-present in its collective unconscious, to appear in the myths of the ancient world, from the Greeks to the Norse, to nineteenth century poetry, into twentieth century science fiction stories and films … Kraken is a very fine speculative, literary and environmental poem that deserves to be widely read, both haunting and majestic in its delivery.
