    Hi all,
Just a reminder about the Auckland meet up for SpecFicers – on this Sunday, 24th August (rather then 3rd Sunday of the month) starting at 1pm as usual.

We changed it for this month from the 3rd Sunday as it clashed with the RWNZ conference. Guest presenters there included Jim Azevedo of Smashwords and well-known writing tutor, James Scott Bell, plus top selling self-published and hybrid US romance writers. Lots of really useful information.

    New meeting location:
Sub-Basement of the Parisian Tie Factory,

4 Poynton Terrace (Off Pitt St or behind St Kevins Arcade)

    AK Central

    See location map here: http://www.audiofoundation.org.nz/contact
This will hopefully be our permanent venue and time. There is parking available in Poynton Tce.

Please bring along a gold coin donation to help pay for hire of the venue.

    Speaker:

Darian Smith (award winning fantasy writer and member of SpecFic NZ committee)

will be speaking on “Planning Your Story Before you Write It”

Darian is both a very good writer, having had short stories included in a number of NZ anthologies and a very good presenter. He is also very much a ‘ plotter’ kind of writer and has used the methods he will be talking about in both his fantasy novels.

Bring along your own methods and ideas. There will be discussion, Q&A etc after, plus getting all the gossip etc on what other Auckland members are doing.

    Reader:

Mike Reeves-McMillan will read a short excerpt from his writing – be ready to critique and discuss ( always positively and helpfully!)

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

    • Great talk from Darian, and good to hear a story from Mike and share some ideas. Nice to meet all who were there. 🙂

    • Apologies for being an hour late – among the fiction in my head was the idea that it started at 2pm, not 1pm. No idea where that came from.

    • Well I was very disappointed not to make it- but it seems wiser and kinder to keep my germs to my self. Meanwhile I had some interesting fever induced ideas for my Fantasy. Amazing what your brain comes up with when you have the flu and you’re 40.6 degrees..

      • Shame you couldn’t join us, but me and the antibodies probably should thank you. My kids just brought home tummy bugs; not sure how many good ideas that’ll give me though…
