We’ve done it before, and we’ll do it again. We’re like that here at SpecFicNZ.

Sharpen up your keyboards and fire up your pencils. Dig that notebook out of the drawer marked ‘Work In Progress’ and dust the, er, dust off your screen. We’re giving you a head-start on a whopper of a competition for 2013, before the mince-pies and frantic-festivities of December take their toll.

Your humble committee is delighted to announce it is time to get those stories polished for the third annual Wily Writers short story contest.

In association with SpecFicNZ, the Wily Writers Audible Fiction website and podcast will be open to submissions from SpecFicNZ members until April 30th. Stories can be of any genre so long as they have a speculative element, with a firm word limit of 4,000 words. Check out the full guidelines at their website.

You won’t want to miss out on being in with a chance to win this one. The prize pool includes publication on the website and podcast, professional payment of $0.05USD/word, plus an extra cash prize from SpecFicNZ – first place wins a fantastic $80 (NZD), with second place earning a definitely decent $40 (NZD). So what are you waiting for?

You can check out all the great fiction on the Wily Writers’ site for free, including work by SpecFicNZ members Debbie Cowens, Matt Cowens, Darian Smith, Grant Stone, Alan Baxter, Ripley Patton, Samuel Mae, and Dan Rabarts.
