Hi Mark, it’s true we’re a fairly quiet group in Wellington! I’ll link to this discussion from the FB group and see if anyone wants to organise a meetup.

I second Dan’s recommendation of Octavia Cade’s ‘Trading Rosemary’. The ebooks is available from Masque Books / Amazon / Kobo / Your preferred ebook vendor, I imagine.

A lunchroom heat-pump! Luxury! Here at SpecFicNZ we have only cats to keep our hands from freezing off. And even then only sometimes.

Who will this week’s winner be – Dave, or Dave? It’s gotta be – Dave!
“Chill out; halt and decide what colour crest suits your tentacle shape. Sigh, eat a chip. Evolution’s such a drag.”
I think proper writers had their fingers frozen to their keyboards, while I stuffed around beneath the lunchroom heat-pump. :\

Hehehe. Then may all your moggys be fluffy and nearby. 🙂

A tough decision as always, but someone’s got to make it – congratulations to this week’s winner, Dave Catt!
“He’d harp on, and eventually they’d open the hatch. Lost on this drought planet; couldn’t winkle out where they’d crashed.”

Some great #SpecFicShorts entries this week – so hard to choose a winner! Nevertheless …
Congratulations to Dave Catt! Here’s his story:
“’A short grumble,’ said Moa with a squint from beneath the canopy. ’Bloody strange creatures on the beach with sticks.’”
See you all next week for the next challenge!

It’s that time again – time for another round of #SpecFicShorts!
Use the five words below to craft a super-short, 20-words-or-less story for fame and glory. Winner drawn at 7pm tonight.
This week’s prompt words are:
canopy; grumble; squint; short; moa
‘A short grumble.’ said Moa with a squint, from beneath the canopy. ‘Bloody strange creatures on the beach with sticks.’
Historic short film:
Jackson squints into the camera.
Beneath the canopy, comes a grumble.
“Cut!”
But the moa keeps coming.“Musn’t grumble,” the old canopy said with a squint to the ground. “Moa’s too short to nip this bud.”
