The Speculative Literature Foundation is currently accepting applications for two diversity-oriented grants: Diverse Writers and Diverse Worlds, both intended to foster the creation of speculative fiction work rich in diversity. While the SLF is a US-based organisation, these grants are open to writers from around the world.
- The $500 Diverse Writers grant is intended to support new and emerging writers from underrepresented and underprivileged groups, such as writers of color, women, queer writers, disabled writers, working-class writers, etc. — those whose marginalized identities may present additional obstacles in the writing / publishing process.
- The $500 Diverse Worlds grant is intended for work that best presents a diverse world, regardless of the writer’s background.
The grants are intended to support writers in the creation of new writing, not to acknowledge completed and/or published works.
For more information about these diversity grants and how to apply, please see the Speculative Literature Foundation website.
The SLF also administers several other grants each year, including the Working-Class/Impoverished Writers’ $750 Grant; the Gulliver Travel Research Grant; and the Older Writers Grant. Check the website to see when these grants open for applications.
