Book reviews are an essential part of establishing yourself as an author, but they can be hard to come by. That’s why Spec Fic NZ offers a review service for our members. Tell us about your work and we’ll do our best to match you to someone who will give you an honest review.
This is a great way to get your work out there, get a professional review and help spread the word about your upcoming release. As well as lifting your author profile, reviews can also help increase sales.
Please note that our reviews will be honest and we expect the published work to be of a good, professional quality.
How to request a review
- Fill in this form. Please give as much detail about your work as you can (while also being concise). This will help us match you to the right reviewer.
What’s the review process?
- One of our team members will send you an email saying we’ve received your review request. Please be patient as we are all volunteers, but we will get back to you as soon as we can. If you haven’t heard from us in three business days, please check your spam folder for emails from [email protected].
- We’ll reach out to reviewers who we think will match well with your book. If a reviewer is interested, you’ll then send them a copy of your book.
- The reviewer will have a month from receiving the book to submitting a review to our Reviews team.
- The review will be posted on our website. If the reviewer chooses, they can also post the review on Goodreads, Amazon or other book review websites. Let us know if you’d like this in your request.
- Once the review is published, please consider returning the favour by writing a review for someone else, and/or signing up to be a regular reviewer. See below for details.
If we are unable to match you with a reviewer we will let you know. Everyone is a volunteer and the work might not appeal or schedules may mean our reviewers are unable to help. Please know that we will do our absolute best to get your work reviewed!

Reviews FAQ
How long with the review take? Reviewers have a month from receiving a copy of the work (novel, short story, etc.) until the due date for review. If you need a review faster than that, please let us know and we will try to facilitate that.
Where will the review be posted? It will be published on the SpecFicNZ website. If the reviewer chooses, they can also post the review on Goodreads, Amazon or other book review websites.
