SpecFicNZ member Steff Green is keen to book a stall at this year’s Auckland Armageddon Expo. See below for more information and get in touch with her if you’re interested!
Any small press / indie authors want a stall at Armageddon Auckland?
Expo dates: 24-27 October 2014
The Auckland Armageddon Expo is held every year over labour weekend, and is one of the premiere events on NZ’s SF/F fandom calendar, attracting over 60,000 attendees. This year, the event organisers have decided to add a new Literary Hall – showcasing local and international talent. The Literary Hall is located at the entrance of the Expo, and will have the entire flow of attendees circulating through it. NYT best-selling author Terry Brooks has already been confirmed as one of the exhibitors. There will be Q&A panels, signings, and a retail space of large and small publishers alike. Many of the attendees will be thinking about Christmas presents.
Stalls are significantly cheaper than the main event stalls, which run at $1600+ GST. Stall space in the Literary Hall will cost $500+GST for a 3x3m space, including partitioning, tables, chairs and four exhibition passes. So there’s a significant cost saving here, but it’s still a huge chunk of change for an indie author like myself.
I would like to join forces with other SpecFicNZ authors to run a joint stall. Each author will pay an equal share in the stall, and will be able to display their books, as well as bookmarks, signs, cards and other merchandise, for the whole weekend. We will also go equal share in the rental of an EFTPOS machine, so we can provide sales to attendees. With four passes each day and four days over the weekend, we could create a roster to allow each participant time to man the stall as well as time to enjoy the Expo or participate in other activities over the weekend.
I need probably at least 4 other authors to make this event cost-effective for us all. If you’re a small-press or indie author who would like to participate, contact me, [email protected], asap if you’re interested.
