SpecFicNZ AGM 2015

The time has come to elect a new SpecFicNZ Core for 2015-16, and discuss new ideas and projects for the SpecFicNZ community.

This year’s AGM will be held at 2pm, Sunday 28 June online at the SpecFicNZ meeting room. A link and access instructions will be sent to all members before the meeting. All members of SpecFicNZ are encouraged to attend; we will require a quorum of ten registered, paid-up members present for the meeting to be valid.

So, what happens at an AGM?

Voting

The most important thing that happens at a SpecFicNZ AGM is voting for the next Core committee members: the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicist, and up to five General Committee Members, who can pick up various exciting projects throughout the year – or mastermind your own!

You can read more about the Core positions here. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone you know for a position on the Core, please email [email protected] with the following information by Friday 19 June:

  • Name and contact email address of the nominee
  • Up to 100 words describing why you/your nominated person is running for the position; your experience, enthusiasm, etc!
  • Important – if you’re nominating someone else, please CC them in to the nomination email so that they know they’ve been nominated! We will also be in touch with all nominees prior to the AGM.

Discussion of new projects/ideas

We always want to hear about what we can do to make SpecFicNZ valuable for our members. In 2014-15, we created the SpecFicNZ Publishing Grant Scheme based on suggestions from members, and we’re keen to hear what you think we should do next!

Please send any project proposals or ideas to [email protected] by Friday 19 June. These can be as simple as “I think you should have more competitions like x, y, or z”, or “I want to hear more about local events and opportunities!”. You may be called upon to discuss your idea at the AGM, so please be prepared to a) turn up! and b) answer questions about the idea.

There will also be the opportunity for casual/off-the-cuff discussions on the day.

Current agenda

So far, items on the agenda for the AGM are:

  • Voting for the new Core
  • Proposal: Introducing a code of conduct for SpecFicNZ members and events
