Some great #SpecFicShorts entries this week – so hard to choose a winner! Nevertheless …
Congratulations to Dave Catt! Here’s his story:
“’A short grumble,’ said Moa with a squint from beneath the canopy. ’Bloody strange creatures on the beach with sticks.’”
See you all next week for the next challenge!

It’s that time again – time for another round of #SpecFicShorts!
Use the five words below to craft a super-short, 20-words-or-less story for fame and glory. Winner drawn at 7pm tonight.
This week’s prompt words are:
canopy; grumble; squint; short; moa
‘A short grumble.’ said Moa with a squint, from beneath the canopy. ‘Bloody strange creatures on the beach with sticks.’
Historic short film:
Jackson squints into the camera.
Beneath the canopy, comes a grumble.
“Cut!”
But the moa keeps coming.“Musn’t grumble,” the old canopy said with a squint to the ground. “Moa’s too short to nip this bud.”

And this week’s #SpecFicShorts winner is … Dave Catt!
“The banker’s habit was to sit deep beneath the orb of a streetlight, apparently a witless vagabond, begging most lucratively.”

The witless vagabond priest lay in deep drunken slumber. Grinning, Maurice guided the tiny orb rider under his grubby habit.

Writers, start your engines! Today’s #SpecFicShorts prompts are:
orb; deep; witless; vagabond; habit
Today’s competition will run until 7pm, for the after-work competitors!
The bankers habit was to sit deep beneath the orb of a streetlight, apparently a witless vagabond, begging most lucratively.
He unbuttons his scientist’s habit.
He’s witless, useless!
Yet, deep in the petrie dish, the orb—a vagabond cell—swells.I’m freediving so deep the pressure renders vagabonds such as I witless.
The Kraken’s glittering orb watches out of habit.

Hmm, a disgruntled dragon dream; not sure what that means. I’ll dig some more. Ignore the drill, just removing dross.

Get your writing caps on – this week’s prompt words are:
dream; disgruntled; dragon; dross; dig
Alchemist’s dream experiment!
No gold.
Nor is dross the only by-product.
Disgruntled, I dig a hole to bury the dragon. The alchemist cackles. The dragon, disgruntled that his dream hoard is dross, blasts flame. Digging fails to save the alchemist.
The disgruntled dragon groans; his dream was dross, and his cave of spiky treasures uncomfortable. Maybe he could dig bigger?
